Prohibitionists and Consequences

Do the prohibitionists realize, or care, that their campaign to “end prostitution” actually ends rights?  A recent very poor experience with a client could have had a different ending.   Or perhaps not happened at all had there been sex worker human rights.    With sex worker rights and full decriminalization, I could have gone to the police and charged him with physical assault, sexual assault, probably a couple of other things.

Does handcuffing an unwilling participant and putting a trash bag over my head to use as leverage for negotiation count as a crime?  Or making me  eat a used condom?  How about forced anal sex while I was focused on asphyxiation?  Perhaps if we had sex worker rights and full decriminalization, he wouldn’t have done what he did at all.   Does the concussion count?   How do I explain how this happened to the doctor?  To my non sex work employer?  Oh, and why am I doing sex work?  Because I can’t live on the wages of my “straight job”, and they won’t post the schedule until 24 hours before it is valid.  Making most straight jobs impossible.

Thanks prohibitionists, you’re doing such a great job saving us………..

Citizens Against Trafficking, the brainchild of Donna M. Hughes and Melanie Shapiro state on their website:   CAT (Citizens Against Trafficking)  believes decriminalized prostitution in Rhode Island enabled the expansion of the sex industry, an industry vulnerable to trafficking.  Decriminalized prostitution meant that we were unable to identify and assist victims of trafficking.  We were unable to use some federal laws or participate in federal initiatives to combat trafficking.

So what trafficking victims were assisted Ms. Hughes and Ms. Shapiro?  North Carolina is a state where prostitution is fully criminalized.  Yet it is still here.   Where are the trafficking victims being saved here in North Carolina?

Back to the original point.  Federal initiatives?  The perpetrator was a federal law enforcement employee.  And please don’t tell me I have “rights”.  I’ve seen that process before.   You can not take on the federal government.

Thank you Donna M. Hughes, Melanie Shapiro, you made a difficult situation so much better with your “work”  Either of you ever been bagged and shagged?   Or are you safe at URI making decisions for others?

  1. “A recent very poor experience with a client could have had a different ending.” You’re totally right.

  2. client was very happy with the result, many prohibitionists would be too, on multiple levels.

  3. I know how hard this incident is for you to talk about, much less write about in a very public space. What makes me so mad is those who need to listen won’t.

  4. I have no doubt that some believe I got exactly what I deserved. Their thinking would be, if I had just stayed with them, fought prostitution, I’d be fine today. Of course, it is likely that the incident would have happened to someone anyway,.

Their answer is just eliminate prostitution and the problem goes away.

I wonder what their answer is to paying bills?

  5. It’s likely this incident has happened before, as well. I’m sure this person has a history of violent abuse towards all women, not just sex workers.

The abolitionists remind me a lot of the pro-lifers. The pro-lifers care about getting the fetus born, but once it’s born, it’s pretty much on its own. So much for childcare and support and such. The abolitionists just want sex workers out of work and then they’re on their own. Silly little details like paying bills and living are irrelevant to them.

Anyone who thinks you deserved what happened is sick.

Prohibitionists just want their political victories. They are the stereotypical pro lifers. Just as you said.

I want donna m hughes and melanie shapiro to answer my email. I specifically sent them the other post. Since they care so much about sex slaves, and I had become one when my consent was taken away, where is their response. They thump the manifesto of law enforcement being our rescuers. Yet I was bagged and raped by a law enforcement officer. He wasn’t rescuing anything but his erection.

Where is the response Donna M. Hughes? Melanie Shapiro? Since it’s all illegal here in north carolina we should be safe right? Why am I not safe?

    Answer please, Donna M. Hughes..

  7. Terrible. What is awful is that this guy will continue to do this to women because it is probably his fetish.

  8. @lbcitygirl,

You are right. He will continue to do this to women. It was so easy to sense and feel that he got his rush finally when he got the total submission of failing consciousness. He can do it as long as he wants too. He’s law enforcement. Who is going to take that on?

  9. To anybody who thinks that anti-prostitution laws are mainly about stopping trafficking, I ask:

1.If that’s true, then why are sex workers being arrested and criminalized under anti-prostitution laws?

2.Why are there so many more sex workers being arrested under anti-prostitution laws than traffickers?

    3. Why do people who harm sex workers consistently get away with the abuses while sex workers continue to be arrested?

4.How does incarcerating sex workers and trafficking sex workers into jail cages have anything to do with stopping trafficking?

    Please respond.

  10. I would really like the prohibitionists to answer number 3. All the questions are important, just 3 number 3 has certain meaning to me right now given recent experiences. What is the answer prohibitionists?

  11. […] abuses limited to local law enforcement personnel; activist Jill Brenneman reported in July on her rape by a federal air marshal (WARNING: this is both graphic and disturbing).  Do I believe that a disproportionate percentage […]

  12. DHS has a IG office that would/should investigate this type of behavior by a FAM. I am sure this must be difficult for you, and i can understand you not wanting to rehash it over and over again. But this scoundrel may find more victims in the future.

Prison guards are regularly charged with and convicted for raping prisoners.

At least give it some thought.

  13. I agree, it could be therapeutic for you to file a complaint.

Even if it gets ignored, it will be on file and could help convict him in the future, in the event he rapes a *real person*.

These guys tend to get progressively worse. Serial killers often have assault/rape histories. The longer he gets away with it, the worse he could get.

After so many rapes, the thrill is gone and they have to progress to re-capture the magic.. The next girl might not have the bag removed until after she stops breathing and if it ever came out that this dude harmed someone else after you, your conscience is going to be hell on you.

Girl, you can do it anonymously, but just do it… he miight already have a history on file… If nothing else comes from it, at least you will know that you tried to stop it instead of just accepting it.

  14. I agree that a person who is already this violent will just escalate the violence.

  15. DHS/TSA IG office is nothing but an office that intimidates victims into silence to protect the agency. They are by no means an ally. This is from personal experience as a former DHS/TSA supervisor. They would just use their muscle to protect the FAM in order to protect the agency from having to admit liability or that one of their employees is a sexual predator.

This guy will likely escalate the violence. His effort calling the escort service and trying to hire me again leaves little doubt that he would have needed more to get the same rush. He was totally unresponsive until it turned really violent than he hit his sexual stride.

Other than warning other sex workers about this prick there is little that can be done to stop him. I wish it were different. Predators almost always win.

  16. The responsibility of protecting others from this man should not be yours, Jill, but unfortunately it looks like that’s the way it’s turning out. I assume that your “agency” has been warned, and your fellow workers.

I really wish there was something that I could do. But since I can’t, the best you can do is to go to your local area escort sites and agencies and warn them. Also, if you know where street-workers in your area hang out “between tricks” you might want to warn them. If this predator can’t go to escorts then he will go to more vulnerable prey.

However, if you have a lawyer or can talk to one, you might be able to draw up an agreement stating that you in no way hold the DHS/TSA IG or whatever the fuck it is responsible for what this individual did to you. You just want the individual held accountable. Don’t know if that helps, but I thought I’d pass it along.
