Prop. K Opponent Comes Clean

Somebody asked us to post this, so the commentary provided is by that person.  Here is the message:

Thanks
Proposition K opponent finally comes clean.

Wonder if Jeane Palfrey, the D.C. Madame is rolling over in her grave?

http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/05/dc_madams_next_.html

Palfrey said she is donating 10 percent of the revenue she gets from doing
a series of Internet radio interviews to help wrongly convicted prisoners
re-establish life outside of incarceration.  The program, Life After
Exoneration Program (LAEP), helps exonerated former prisoners find homes,
jobs and other support.

Heather Weigand, director of client services for the group, confirmed
Palfrey¹s Pledge and said the money would pay for psychological therapy and
vocation training for exonerated former prisoners.²

³This isn¹t going to be for naught.²  Palfrey said.  ³We¹ve all settled
down.  Lets do some good.²

Here¹s Healther Weigand now opposing Proposition K
<http://espu-ca.org/wp/?page_id=173> , the San Francisco  ballot measure to
stop the enforcement of the prostitution laws against prostitutes and bring
equal protection to sex workers.

Š²Heather Weigand, a Prop K opponent, is program manager for Safe House,
which helps provide housing, shelter, food, one-to-one therapy and other
services to women who have been working in prostitution.

Weigand said Safe House wouldn’t be affected by Prop K other than that the
program does send women to the “wonderful” groups provided at the SAGE
Project, which operates the First Offender Prostitution Program with the
police, the district attorney’s office, and other agencies. SAGE likely
would lose funding if Prop K passes because of the contract with the city
for the first offender program.²

FYI Heather Weigand is also founded her own consulting company, Focuzup, a
collaborative criminal and social justice agency that addresses re-entry
issues for the formerly incarcerated.

No wonder she kept changing her story every time she showed up at the
political club¹s endorsement meetings to oppose Proposition K.  Some times
she¹d say she was the director of the prostitution safe house funded by the
Network For Ministries, a Presbyterian faith-based project.  Other times
she¹d identify as a justice consultant¹.  In either case, she clearly relies
on the criminalization of prostitutes to make a living and has aligned
herself with the prison industrial complex.

The First Offender Prostitution Program is a scheme operated by the San
Francisco District Attorney’s Office by which mandatory attendance and fines
up to $1000 are required men, women and transgender folks who’ve been
arrested for prostitution if they want to avoid a criminal conviction on
their record that can be used to discriminate in hiring for other positions.

  1. Oh please. Heather Weigand is one of the people who cleans up the mess left behind by you happy hooker propagandists. There are women who believe your load of crap — that they can just make some easy money for school — or that their pimp really loves them. — or that it’s wayyy sex positive to do blow jobs for a living.

Your lies hurt real people. You ruin people’s lives. Once women hit rock bottom, some of them try to find a way back and there are a few underfunded programs out there run by heros like Heather Weigand who help those women.

You don’t seem to give a crap about the girls and women who get chewed up and spit out by the sex industry. You are so focused on your crazy fantasy that you don’t even notice the women whose bodies you are stepping on to be the great prostitute spokeswomen. All you care about is the money or your next book deal.

Heather Weigand is a hero. Period.

  2. If Weingard really cared about these poor, poor women, she would work to get their arrest records wiped clean. Then they would have a better chance of flipping burgers for minimum wage.

  3. Well maybe she can be of some assistance to those who’ve been chewed up and spit out by wall street.

  4. Please- Get over yourself and your own fantasies there. Most of the people here are involved in some way with sex workers rights orgs…which do included help and support for exiting the sex industry if that is what a person wants…along with seeing the criminal status and stigma applied to prostitutes is removed. Oh I know, just so fucking horrible!

    Piss off, really.

  5. vote to not give women a record in the first place and vote yes on prop k

  6. How many times have we pointed out our credentials on this blog!?!?!?

Those who come here to throw around accusations should at least familiarize themselves with information previously shared on this site about those they are defaming. Really, not doing so does make you look like a monumental ass!

  7. Jessica- Aww, if they actually educated themselves, it would make it hard to be so self-righteous!

  8. >>Heather Weigand is one of the people who cleans up the mess left behind by you happy hooker propagandists>>

Cleans up the mess left by happy hooker propagandists? The mess as you refer to it it created by social injustices that oppressed populations suffer. Like any marginalized group worldwide prostitutes are vulnerable to exploitation, oppression and harm that is exacerbated by those who use the current system and lack of rights of sex workers to do harm.

There is certainly a need for programs that assist individuals that have been trafficked, coerced or are in the sex industry due to any number of factors. But these programs by no stretch could be or are the only response to social injustice. Social advances come through civil rights much more than rescue.

As for the happy hooker propagandists. It’s ironic that you say this as I haven’t had the greatest experiences in the sex industry and despite being a sex worker rights activist am not particularly a strong advocate for sex work. Nonetheless, when I point out injustices in the sex industry radical feminists are the ones who either ignore them, mock them or are so one track focused on their rhetoric they don’t even realize it happened. When I point to my own experiences, rad fems often do the same thing. Posturing on how my experiences are likely to be made up or plagiarized. Which is illogical. There would be zero reason for a happy hooker propagandist to point to negatives. The concept as described is an oxymoron.

    >>Your lies hurt real people. You ruin people’s lives. Once women hit rock bottom,>>

    right back at you. TVPRA

    >>of them try to find a way back and there are a few underfunded programs out there run by heros like Heather Weigand who help those women.>>

There are a lot of zero funded programs out there that receive far less than SAGE, like zero, that have had our funding sucked out by the Bush/rad fem alliance known as TVPRA. Not only are we non funded but we have to deal with zealot rad fems who feel that street outreach should be vacated as a concept in favor of “ending prostitution”. Like it’s a business decision to close an unprofitable route.
You may not want to go down the funding comparison as a point of argument to show how much your spectrum of activists are suffering.

    <>

This from a movement that opposes giving out condoms to street based sex workers that have no money to get them on the basis that doing so is “pro prostitution” but building radical feminist blogs and parading around about their skill at censoring all but their views is an effective method of social change that is worth more than the lives of the sex workers on the street needing the condoms.

    >>notice the women whose bodies you are stepping on to be the great prostitute spokeswomen. All you care about is the money or your next book deal.>>

Actually the money in book deals and being a prostitute spokeswoman is virtually entirely on the radical feminist end. Dworkin’s 10,000 dollar speaking event. Farley who makes a lot of money on speaking events and has books to sell. As a former rad fem speaker, I made more in a gig as a rad fem speaker than I have in all the sex worker rights speeches combined and watched the book deal offers dry up in 2003 when I left radical feminism and became a sex worker rights activist. You are absolutely wrong.

Taking away rights don’t take away wrongs. No one here is advocating the rights of those who pile up womens bodies.

You should be careful, screen name Please, with the words you choose. Statements like you made are the equivalent of a quarterback throwing into triple coverage out of his own end zone. In other words if you don’t watch football, your arguments make it very easy to oppo

Your arguments are akin to Palin saying Obama pals around with terrorists without mentioning the fact that Obama was 8 when Bill Ayers was a terrorist.

Actually perhaps I should go back to being a rad fem propagandist. Money was much better and I never had to come up with anything new. Just recite the same shit over and over.

Ren when do we get our checks from whomever for our work as happy hooker propagandists? Do you work for Abu Hamza too?

  9. I should clarify,

My last post was a response to screen name “Please” other than the last line which was a sarcastic comment for Renegade Evolution. Two posts were written in the same word processor and were sent as one.
