Major Bust in Phoenix Today

At least 50 escorts and the management personnel of the Az Confidential and Desert Divas agencies were arrested today in Phoenix as part of a major prostitution sting. Three houses, eight vehicles, bank accounts and other property were seized amid a flurry of RICO-related charges. It is alleged the company was raking in $250k per month.  There were also coordinated busts in New Mexico as well.

The gratuitous, back-slapping press release from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department spewed forth the typical propaganda:

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon stated, “These are not victimless crimes. On the most basic level, those involved in prostitution, and the family members who love them, are neglected or worse. And the money generated from these illegal ventures helps fund other criminal enterprises such as drug and smuggling operations. This is a good use of resources and I thank the County Attorney and the Phoenix Police Department for working together to make this a better community.”

And, guess what – big surprise.  Mayor Gordon is up for re-election this year.

One of the owners of these agencies, Paul, has been a kind, professional and supportive member of the Arizona sex worker community.  I guess all we can do for now is to ask for prayers for our sisters and brothers who took it hard today.
