Look’s like we’ve got a regular reader here….

Immediately after the BNG post calling for responses to the 20/20 story, came this post over at the blog “Feminist Reprise”:

From Melissa Farley:

Please pass this on asap to feminists who are web activists against sexual violence. Friday March 21, Diane Sawyer did an excellent job in a 2-hour 20/20 special on prostitution in the US. She laid bare the emotional damage that prostitution causes.

As of noon on Saturday, the pro-pimp lobby is flocking to the Comments section of the ABC News site online.

Anyone who can post will help ABC News staff and others in the mainstream get a better understanding of what prostitution is.

Post in comments section here and pass it on.

Comments about the “pro-pimp lobby” notwithstanding, it like somebody follows this blog pretty closely.

It really disappoints me that as a “Feminist” you can discount and hate so many women.

  2. Hey Melissa, we know you’re out there. Since you’re watching us this closely, we invite you take a moment to set aside your beloved self-righteousness and consider a world where ALL women can co-exist, regardless of their personal labor/occupational choices. Thanks for your tireless efforts, but I really don’t know any of us that need saving.

MY tireless efforts are going toward recruiting healthy, responsible women into prostitution as a means to personal empowerment. Anytime you’d like to set aside the sword for an hour or two, we’d be happy to educate you on the realities of our profession and struggle. We’ll be in Chicago in July – care to drop by?

  3. Actually, Melissa Farley and people like her are not in anyway invited to join us in Chicago. It is a closed event for our trusted friends and allies only. We don’t create events to give people like Farley access to abuse, manipulate and harm sex workers.

This is really old. I’m not playing with bullies. Farley can call us the “pro-pimp lobby” all she wants at ‘feminist’ blogs that are designed for hating women. We’ve got the truth and reality on our side. She won’t be able to keep us down for long.

  4. Hello Melissa Farley:
You brought up the issue of emotional damage, but speaking emotional damage, it causes me emotional damage when people such as yourself promote prohibitionist policies that harm sex workers and deny the perspectives of sex workers who don’t accept your think just like you. Yet, Diane Sawyer didn’t address this type of emotional damage. Being persecuted and stigmatized can also cause emotional damage, which is something you seem to overlook.
We have the right to define our perspectives and experiences for ourselves, and you have no right denying our experiences and perspectives. Oh, and by the way, the Swedish model harms sex workers, so please don’t promote this model and then act like you’re helping sex workers by doing this. Before you start promoting policies, you really need to listen to what the people who are most affected by these policies say, and these people are the sex workers. Of course, the perspectives of the sex workers on the legal status of prostitution wasn’t presented on this “20/20” report.

  5. Oh, and one more thing…. Calling us names immature names such as the “pro-pimp lobby” is nothing more than a silencing tactic, but you’re not silencing us. If you’re as much of an expert on prostitution as you act like you are, then you should know that the criminalization of prostitution encourages abusive pimping and other forms of abuse. Perhaps, you do know this, but you’re just in denial, to use a psychological term.

  6. This language that the haters use: ‘“pro-pimp lobby”, has to be reframed to expose them as the land/body owners that they are.
Keeping our occupation criminal is how they, the anti prostitutionist control us and they have to be exposed for the slave owners that they are.
From here on out, we ought to only refer to them as slave owners.

  7. Pro Pimp Lobby,,, cheap rhetoric by Farley in an attempt to silence sex workers. Garbage position statements like “pro pimp lobby” amount to smoke and mirrors attempts to stir up fear in the public to silence those that Farley is afraid of. She can’t make reasonable arguments against sex worker rights and resorts to childish efforts at creating fear of those she wants silenced and repressed. Classic tactics of a batterer. She wants to keep her power and her access to the money and that comes at the expense of those she claims to be the rescuer, champion and advocate of.
Perhaps its time be bring up the similarities in tactics of Farley, Craft and Hughes among others to those of batterers and abusers.

Statements like Farley made about the pro pimp lobby, it’s abuse of sex workers. She claims to be advocating for prostitutes………… that is as credible as Chile’s General Pinochet claiming to be an advocate for democracy, freedom and human rights.

  8. Attn: Melissa-

The irony is thick, no? You, who use pornographic images on your blog (2257 anyone?) without knowing how the women in said images feel about their work, or being USED in an anti argument, and don’t even bother to put up a WARNING until a “pro-porny” calls you out on it? You, the same person who allows sex workers to be verbally abused on your blog? You, who have been accused of stealing others research and voice no objection to the misuse of your research in anti-porn arguments? YOU are talking about the truth and caring about women in the sex trade?

How goes that academic and writing career, Melissa? How goes the book sales? How goes the lecture tours? How goes building your creds and earning your living on the backs of sex workers?

Who is the pimp here, again?

Frankly, I’d love to see Melissa have to face off against her detractors….

  9. She’d never have the huevos to actually face us. We make her work obsolete just by existing. Shutting us up is her only interest.

  10. “pro-pimp” is right down there with “abortion mill” and “feticide.”

  11. Stacey, I totally agree. I don’t think she has the huevos to face us. If she wants to throw hate speech around like pro pimp lobby, she should have the stones to face us otherwise it is nothing but cowardice.

Melissa here is an opportunity to face us. Contact me at swopeast, we will schedule you on XBN on blogtalkradio and you and I can discuss on the air along with listeners exactly what the pro pimp lobby is and will certainly agree to respect the decorum of professional courtesy and civility in the show as long as you hold the same bargain.

  12. Nikki Craft, your cyberstalking is getting really old. Now you are posting hate speech on blogs prior to my speaking events. Get a fucking life.

  13. jill…oh, do expound on that…

  14. Oh, yes, Jill…please tell us more about what Nikki Craft is up to now. I’ll bet all of you a case of PowerAde that she’s the “Fredfriendly” who posted the “pimp lobby” smack over at Nicolas Kristof’s New York Times blog. Hmmm..a putative “Leftist” teaming up with a neo-con…..how interesting.

This has long been the case. History shows that the first anti prostitution laws were pressed into legislation by the progressives of the early 1900’s. Mostly a women’s rights movement made up of white privileged Christian women that were able to use their husbands money and privilege to targeted vice as the source of all evil in their life, they specifically moved to outlaw prostitution and alcohol because their men were always drunk and whoremongering. And being women who had no concept of human, civil or labor rights because they didn’t have the experience of owning property or access to their married in money or resources, they misidentified us as the source of their problem and the escapegoating began. They didn’t even have the right to vote when they successfully lobbied in to law the abatement of prostitution laws by the then all male legislature, who were on notice of the imminent ‘women’s’ voting block’. These laws basically zoning us out of business laws with the idea that if we had no place to work, we’d go away and so would irresponsible husbandry. Now 100 years later we’re still zoned out and now our free speech has been criminalized but now we have accumulated 100 years of discrimination and disenfranchisement that has resulted in unequal protection under the law which has lead to many workers being targeted by the unscrupulous. Now violence, extortion, theft and rape go largely unreported especially when committed by someone in uniform. Additionally, because the of the business has been forced into the underground, in combination of other ant worker laws; like criminalized migration for work and the Taft Hartley Act and the unequal prosecution, like labor racketeering law we now have corrupt law enforcement at all levels of government where cronyism to profits off the criminalization of prostitution is now norm. Today, people of all political types believe that if they just arrest, lock us up and coheirs us into giving up are civil right to attend concentration camps like SAGE, they can ignore their tax payer, voter responsibility slave owners status.

They are wrong. The repercussions of criminalizing of prostitution has the same detrimental effects on society as the criminalization of alcohol.
The Democrats might make it into office this election, but they will have to decriminalize prostitution to stay there.

  16. Something I mentioned on a post on my blog the other day, Sheila Jeffreys, one of the big-name radfems and a CATW leader, quite proudly ties her feminism back to Victorian social purity movements.

  17. Reminder, this “pro pimp lobby” bullshit is the topic on XBN http://www.xxbn,net Noon eastern friday, anyone wishing to express their views on this bullshit accusation, please call in! Farley if you have any stones to back up your words, you should call too. 646 200 3136
