To Vegas with Busts

Look out you non-feminist here we come to celebrate Day of Prostitution Oct 5th.

4 of us lovely ladies and 18 hours of driving just for you Melissa Farley. Please come out and say hi to us! We’d love for you to talk with actual sex workers that are fighting for their rights. So, we have food a laptop with internet access and are headed to ’sin city’, except no actual sexual sinning is allowed. Nevada, don’t become sheep like the rest of the states! Keep your rights, and make a stand about prostitution. Come out and join us on the streets, we will have petitions to sign and loads of fun! Trafficking is NOT prostitution. Forced Trafficking is wrong, of this we can all agree.

As we said before (Just in case you weren’t watching the screen hard enough Melissa.. ahem), forced prostitution is wrong. But when sex workers choose to be sex workers, then how does that equate to trafficking? We independent sex workers are looking to find a way to make our jobs legal, it takes a lot to manage ourselves, our time our lives and our money. We are workers, not slaves to our 9-5 jobs. We make choices and descisions on our own, we are mothers, daughters, sisters, brothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins and even GRANDPARENTS. We love who we are and we are not giving up the fight for our rights as Sex Workers!!!!

  1. I hope you’re not going through any great trouble just to react to the “International Day of No Prostitution“. I’ll be surprised if that half-baked event even gets off the ground, and even if it does, I don’t think its going to amount to much more than a few UNLV radfems perplexing folks out on the Strip.

In any event, have fun in Vegas!

  2. They currently have 35 ppl signed up from UNLV apparently. Their plans

  3. Robyn,

I wish I could’ve gone! It sounds like it’s going to be so much fun, regardless if anyone from the other point of view shows up. I hope you give us lots of updates and pictures!

  4. Imagine if the “other side” has few people show up and our band of informed whores outnumbers them!

I’ll be thinking ‘safe traveling’ thoughts for you!

  5. i’m looking forward to seeing ya ladies in a few hours! and i think we’ll have lots of pro-sex workers rights folks from UNLV there, too!

  6. Robyn & Crew: Have a wonderful time, I wish to hell I could be there (damn east coast address!). I, for one, really, really appreciate you doing this.

  7. Pics, pls! Rock on!

  8. Way to go, Robyn! Maybe, we could declare October 5 as “Sex Worker Appreciation Day.” Not that sex workers shouldn’t be appreciated everyday, but just an idea………………………

  9. Clash Of The Titans!

It’s only fun until someone gets hurt ….
    ….. then it’s hillarious!!!

    C ya in the streets.
byobb – bring yer own body bags.

    Decriminalize Freedom!!!

    xxx

  10. I like ‘Sex Worker Appreciation Day!’

I hope Hallmark will catch on and stock all of the appropriate coffee mugs and cards😉

  11. Sorry Robyn, you were fooled. The whole announcement of a protest was faked by people who are supposedly in your own movement. The idea was to bring out the antis. I’d ask you comrades to reimburse you for the gas money if I was you.

  12. …i mean, i dunno, but here i was thinking probably the reason no one showed up was because the whole thing was, well, really lame and unprofessional looking, from the git go. as iacb notes at the beginning of this. seriously, why would you bother?

  13. artygal, are you trying to say that PEPPER is Jill Brenneman?

admittedly I don’t know any of y’all and have no idea what the fuck is going on with the Intrigue, but it seems to me that seeing as how JB’s pals with the people who came for the anti-anti thing it’d be a rather convoluted and lame way to get your friends out for a visit. and PEPPER, whoever or whatever it is, wasn’t exactly a terrifically fearsome looking opponent, there. why would JB need to invent someone like that when she’s got so many other apparently real people who’re equally assy and often as ineffectual on her case already?

and throwing in “leave Melissa Farley alone” at the end of it, well…so, what, you’re saying you -were- on JB’s side but now you’re not? because of her anti-Farley stuff?

  14. Even though Melissa Fareye was a “no show,” it seems like this was a great rally event for sex workers rights, so I definately don’t think that Robyn Few or any of the other folks in the San Francisco Bay area wasted their time or gas money by heading to Las Vegas. In fact, I think these types of rallies are important, regardless of whether Farley and her supporters showed up. It seems like some positives came out of this rally, such as educating the public about the importance of decriminalizing prostitution and obtaining signatures on a sex workers’ rights petition.

  15. The accusations that I am Ashley, the UNLV student behind Day of No Prostitution, is false. I had nothing to do with it. It is just the latest in bizarre accusations giving me far more time and power than I have. My only association with her is that she flooded my blog with largely incoherent posts.

Your statement’s in this blog about supporting me and my posse, last week I had a cult, last month it was an army of infiltrators co-opting feminism, April and May it was Gregor with the allegations that I didn’t exist and was just a paid writer for the porn industry. No one bothers to attribute any evidence to any claims. Which has a reason. There isn’t any because they are entirely false and baseless accusations. Shrug,,,,, another month another false set of allegations.

  16. you know, admittedly i’m biased in terms of my position on the subject matter, but i do think that even if i weren’t, the various shenanigans from the Farley camp i’ve seen thus far would be giving me serious pause. these people just seem a few sandwiches short of a picnic. the intrigue! the conspiracies! the Dwama! i just…if it weren’t prostitution/porn, would it be something else? it seems like it. whatever, nod smile back away slowly.

i mean, i’ve come to expect it from various Internets personalities, but it’s a bit depressing when purportedly Serious people appear to belong to the same congregation of St. Loony Up The Cream Bun With Jam.

  17. …well, understatement, particularly so when they seem to be in a position to actually influence policy. don’t we have enough of that from the rightwing assclowns currently running the show?

    meh.

“the whole world’s mad but me and thee
and i’m not too sure about thee”

  18. Artygal, you realize how easy it is to trace an IP and that you have the same exact IP as a few other people posting and that you left your name open in one. Not so smart. You were a supporter of mine? Really? When?

Perhaps you are blistering at the criticism of Farley because she is your close ally? Because you both have displayed porn on your websites of women being tortured, porn in violation of the law, without consent of the actress?

Whatever happened to your secret underground feminist organization with the New Mexico address? Why did you stop using the name…………… I’ll be nice.

Just for the record. Our pal Artygal is a rad fem activist, anyone inside the sex worker rights movement that wants to know who it is, I’ll tell you. Talk about projection accusing anyone of faking a profile.

Artygal, get a life and some help.

  19. I might add artygal is also most of the “other” posts critical of our live blogging event and many people that post here.

  20. I find it very telling that artygal and her other personalities didn’t think we were advanced enough to trace an IP address.

  21. I don’t get the impression that artygal/etc. is/are the brightest bulb in the chandelier tbh

  22. Artygal, Willow, Janfray, grmnguy, weinsteinz, and Josie all have the exact same IP number. Go figure. Must be a coincidence.

  23. well, Josie did say she was letting some friends use her computer…

  24. one of Josie’s riffs also made me wonder if she was maybe one (or more) of Ren’s trolls as well, like the “Not OK” one.
